Balearic Islands: Introduction
The Balearic Islands are an archipelago off the coast of Spain in the western Mediterranean. The chief islands are Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, with Palma, in Majorca, the capital city. The culture and cuisine is typically Mediterranean. The islands have been an autonomous region of Spain since 1983 and while Spanish remains the main language many people do speak English.
