I think the island of Menorca is perfect for people of all ages looking for a relaxing beach type holiday and it's only a 2 1/2 hour flight away.

My favourite resort is Cala'n Bosch, which is just an hour away from the airport, as it has a picturesque boating marina surrounded by restaurants and bars and no 'pumping nightclubs', which is perfect for my family with two children. There are children's play areas and a wide variety of restaurants ranging from Mexican and Spanish to Chinese plus regular live music played in the square. When we want a bit more action, we head to the aqua park which keeps us all entertained.

I think Cala'n Bosch has a good choice of accommodation, ranging from hotels, self-catering complexes and an abundance of villas, so we always have plenty of options which is great as the children get older.

In contrast to the larger, busier sister island of Majorca, Menorca is more of a family based destination with nightlife that is much more low-key. It also has some really lovely beaches, some of which are only accessible by boat, such as Cala Turqueta, which has absolutely stunning turquoise water and pure white sand; it's hard to imagine it is in the Med, we could have been anywhere in the world...

Ciudadela is the main town and has traditional Spanish tapas bars around the harbour. This is where we used to catch buses to visit other resorts like Cala'n Forcat, which has a lovely rocky cove (you get to it down lots of steps but it's so worth it) and again lots of restaurants, children's play areas with trampolines and bouncy castles - another perfect family resort for us.

Driving is a doddle here as there's basically one main road through from Mahon to Ciudaldela with most of the 'resort roads' leading off it, so it's easy to get about.

For me, Menorca is just perfect for people wanting a beach holiday during the day with the evenings consisting of nice restaurants with a friendly atmosphere and finally not forgetting the awesome sunsets.
