Tenerife: Introduction

Tenerife is the biggest and most populous of the Canary Islands and almost five million tourists visit the island every year. It is one of the biggest and brightest carnivals in the world and completely transforms the island’s capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The parties in the streets start on the Friday before Carnival with a fantastic opening parade which draws thousands of dressed up revellers to fancy dress and staying up until the early hours of Saturday morning. The party lasts until Ash Wednesday when “entierro de la sardina” (burial of the sardine) is celebrated. The town quiets down again for a day or two before “Piñata” begins the following weekend. Don't forget to go to the Siam Water Park, well worth a visit.

Kids Attractions
Lago Martianez is one of the best family attractions on the island and for good reason. The natural water playground, designed by Cesar Manrique of the Canary Islands, offers numerous salt water pools with pebbles bottoms, making it ideal for the kids to cool down in. There are also numerous waterparks on the island such as Siam Park in Playa de las Americas or Aqualand in Costa Adeje to keep the kids entertained on your family holidays.
