Grenada is my favourite island in the Caribbean. It has lovely beaches and palm trees, but there also are lush rainforests, plantations and spectacular waterfalls. On top of that, the people are so welcoming and the food is amazing.

Grenada is called the 'island of spice' and it really does this title justice with the aroma of nutmeg and cinnamon filling the air. I would recommend visiting one of the local markets, spice farms or the local nutmeg station where they will be happy to show you around. We also visited the oldest rum distillery on the island and a chocolate making factory to get a taste of some of the delicious, local products.

Another local delight is “Fish Friday” in Gouyave where the catch of the day will be freshly prepared in front of you at numerous stalls. It is the perfect place for both tourists and locals to sample some wonderful varieties of fish.

A visit to the capital St George's is definitely worthwhile too, if you want to go shopping, visit historic buildings or prefer to stroll along the pretty harbour and eat in one of the waterside restaurants.

Make sure to take some time out for a trip to Grand Etang National Park, home to the Concord Falls, monkeys and exotic birds. You can easily reach the park by hire car and there are several trails to follow. However, I preferred to take a trip with an experienced local guide who led us through the rainforest and told us everything about the vegetation and wildlife.

One of my personal highlights was discovering the colourful reefs of Grenada whilst snorkeling. There are regular boat trips from Grand Anse to popular snorkeling spots such as Moliniere Marine Park with its unique underwater sculptures.

There is so much to see and do on Grenada but don't forget to soak up some sun and relax on one of its stunning beaches as well. Whatever your preference, you can't help but fall in love with the amazing views, relaxed atmosphere, the beautiful weather and not having to worry about a thing!
