I keep coming back to Tobago after my first trip some fifteen years ago.

I like to stay either at the Coco Reef which is right by the airport and handy for the many local restaurants or at the Rex Turtle beach for a bit of real peace and quiet.

The thing I like about Tobago is that you can just sit around the hotel pool or local beach and soak up all that Caribbean sunshine and be entertained by the local craftsmen making some pretty impressive leather goods or just watch the pelicans dive bombing for fish.

Without too much effort there are plenty of things to do. I am very keen on people watching and drinking rum punch so I strongly recommend a trip to the so called Sunday school event near Buccoo beach on a Sunday evening which has nothing to do with formal education but you can learn all you need to know about reggae, steel bands, calypso and local Creole foods. Try some of the local stews such as Callaloo.

As an aspiring twitcher no trip to Tobago is complete without a trip to the wonderful local rain forest (the Tobago Forest reserve) or visit the “Adventure and Nature Farm” which is really like a very large garden where you can see hummingbirds being fed and bats flying about.

After all this activity its back to the beach for me and no trip to Tobago is complete with a day at Englishman's Bay- this is a truly beautiful beach and retains it unspoilt and very laid back style.

And if you still have some free time take a glass bottom boat over to the “Nylon Pool” and do some snorkelling in some of the most beautiful water in the Caribbean.
