More DealsDalmatian Coast (Dubrovnik): Introduction
Secluded beaches, historic cities, ancient ruins and unspoiled countryside are all reasons why the Dalmatian Coast is becoming so popular for cheap package holidays to Croatia. Boasting crystal clear calm waters, rock bound coves and shimmering stone cities, the Dubrovnik region is known as the Adriatic’s hidden jewel.
Reasons to visit
Ancient stone towns, renaissance palaces and romantic fortresses dot the landscape and rocky islands beckon to you across the placid sea. Fresh seafood and excellent wine are sure to liven up the cuisine. All this plus a wonderfully sunny climate make Dalmatia a prime destination for couples looking for a romantic break or a fun-filled family holiday to Croatia. Perhaps the most romantic of all the Croatian destinations is the beautiful island of Korcula. This ancient town took its shape during the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries. The streets curve to form a leaf-like grid to minimize the effects of a strong northeast wind and to maximize cool breezes from the west. Grey stone houses, red tiled roofs, fortress walls and a splash of green palm trees makes Korcula town the idyllic island retreat on your Dubrovnik holiday.
Things to see and do
Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful towns in Europe, is surrounded by ramparts that were first built in the sixteenth century, with churches, palaces, monuments, monasteries and museums that could take a year to discover. Inside the old town’s ramparts, 5000 people have their homes. Among many places of interest on the Dalmation Coast is the town of Mlini, which is about 12 kilometres south of Dubrovnik on the road to the popular resort of Cavtat. Mlini is a lovely small coastal town set at the foot of mount Spilan with pretty old houses flanking the hills surrounded and shaded by cypress trees. Here one finds beaches of fine shingle and one of sand.
Kids attraction
Croatia hosts a vast number of stunning islands set in the cleanest waters of the Adriatic, and is unspoiled and inexpensive with plenty of water sports and activities to keep the kids happy on their beach holiday.
Weather
The Dubrovnik region is blessed with seven months of steady hot sunshine per year. Temperatures in Croatia can reach above the 30°C mark throughout the hottest summer months of June, July and August when the sun is shining for twelve hours per day, sometimes even more. The dry, drawn out summer season lasts from April to October with the most rainfall in November and December. April marks the beginning of a long hot summer on the Dalmation Coast with the temperature heading over 20°C.
