Latchi with its coastal paved walk, is the picturesque harbour of Polis, known throughout Cyprus for its fresh fish. Set in the North West of the island, in the lee of the Akamas Peninsula, it offers the package holiday visitor the best of both worlds - beach and countryside. This is a beautiful and quiet resort with an abundance of tavernas, bars and shops that cater for all needs. Though the beach is shingle the water is shallow and the local services are excellent, there is even a facility for getting wheelchair bound visitors down to the water’s edge.
Anyone visiting Latchi must visit Aphrodite’s Baths. Legend has it that this is where the goddess of love would meet Adonis. Her grotto, shaded by a gnarled fig tree, shelters a colony of turtle doves whose feathers drift through shafts of sunlight above a dark pool. This spot is an ideal starting point for various walks, though walkers should wear proper footwear as the paths can be hard in flip-flops. From the baths up to the ruined monastery is about 4 kilometres so is best done early in the day before temperatures rise.
