Shopping

There are numerous shops in resorts selling essential items and souvenirs. The local produce markets in Puerto Mogan takes place every Friday, and in Maspalomas they take place each Saturday and Wednesday .

Cuisine

Why not try some local specialities such as tapas, paella, fresh dorada (a local white fish served with potatoes), and 'Ropa Vieja' or 'Puchero Canario' (a stew with meat and vegetables). The majority of resorts in Gran Canaria offer an abundance of middle to top-class restaurants, snack bars/cafes and fast-food outlets. Restaurants serving local cuisine offer good value for money in a cheerful and welcoming atmosphere.

Night-life

The largest selection of clubs and bars can be found in the Kabash centre or the Plaza commercial centre in Playa del Ingles, with the Europa centre in Puerto Rico also offering a small number of bars. Both resorts are open until late. If you're an aspiring high roller, you can find casinos at San Augustin and Playa Meloneras. But if you're looking for something a little quieter, Maspalomas and some areas of Puerto Rico have a more relaxed evening atmosphere
