Egypt - Luxor holidays

introduction to Luxor

Once called Thebes, modern Luxor retains its mystique and fine setting beside the Nile. It has sometimes been called the world's greatest open-air museum due to the incredible array of magnificent sites here. On the East Bank of the river is the modern area of Luxor, where the Temples of Luxor and Karnak and the Avenue of the Sphinxes can be found here. The West Bank is the location of the 'City of the Dead' with the Valleys of the Kings and Queens and Queen Hatshepsut's Temple. Amid all of the bustle of the modern city, peaceful feluccas and Nile cruise boats carry tourists to alternative destinations.
