Shopping

There are markets across the island, with one in Taormina on Wednesday morning and another in Giardini-Naxos on Saturday mornings. The Corso Umberto is a pedestrianised street in Taormina lined with shops, where the best buys include textiles, tablecloths and wine.

Cuisine

Sicily is home to an immense wealth and variety of dishes including 'Caponata', a traditional starter of aubergine served with a sweet and sour sauce. Sardines and sole are popular local fish dishes and there are some very good locally-produced wines, particularly red. Good restaurants abound, including pizzerias, Sicilian and fine-dining establishments.

Nightlife

Much of the night-life on the eastern coast can be found in Taormina, where there's plenty of bars and a few discos. However Taormina is best enjoyed by simply walking through the enchanting, medieval streets and enjoying a pleasant dinner whilst taking in the views.
