Aghios Ioannis is located on the south-east coast of Corfu, about 17 kilometres south of Corfu Town, just south of Benitses and north of Moraitika. There are several hotels on the beachfront and it is a relatively quiet place with a beautiful Blue Flag beach that offers the package holiday visitor the perfect place for relaxation, peace and quiet.

Visitors looking for the full Corfu holiday effect are well placed using Aghios Ioannis as a base from which to explore this wonderful island. Corfu offers up so much for a memorable family holiday given its complex history. From its origins in Ancient Greece, and its mention in Homer’s Iliad, it was used as a base from which Octavian, later the Emperor Augustus, went forth to defeat Mark Antony, then as a province of the Norman kings of Sicily and a part of the Venetian lands. It was a bastion against the expanding Ottoman Empire, preventing them from taking over this part of the Ionian Sea. The capital, Corfu city, looks very different to other Greek cities due to the influence of the Venetian nobility which can still be heard in the local Greek dialect with the incorporation of many Italian and Venetian words. After a short period of French rule it became a British protectorate after the fall of Napoleon, which explains the fact that cricket is played here and the local ginger beer is quite famous!
