Kokini Hani : Holiday Accommodation
Situated fourteen kilometres west of Heraklion airport, make sure you have the windows open for the drive to Kokini Hani, or as the locals know it Kokkini Chani, so as you drive along the spectacular coastline you can take in all the rich smells that assail the senses on arriving in Crete. As you round the corner at the top of the hill Kokini Hani opens out to you like a buffet laden with promise and fun. It gets its name from the original hani, a small wayside inn that was used by farmers on their way to Heraklion market. Once the 60s arrived, and with it electricity, so did the pleasure seekers.
With its fantastic beach, fifty metres wide in places, with umbrellas, beach chairs and bars Kokini Hani offers the ideal spot for a package holiday. Here’s a tip for the days when the beach gets crowded, right at the eastern end past the hotel there is a small road that will take you to a lovely sheltered spot for those days when the north wind picks up. All along the seafront excellent tavernas, many feature seaside dining, where freshly caught seafood is served in a traditional way. The Cretans love children and welcome them into their tavernas so this place makes an ideal spot for a family holiday in Greece.
