Kolymbari : Holiday Accommodation

Kolymbari, or Kolymvari as the Cretans call it, lies at the foot of the Rodopou peninsula. It is a working coastal town and a centre for fishing. The village is pretty and unspoilt and local life revolves around the few tourists who visit. At the heart of the village is the Blue Flag Kolibari beach. The beach lies between the promenade and the beach and is the best place to soak up the sun, so that’s where all the sunbeds and umbrellas can be found, but wherever you are on the beach the views over the Gulf of Chania are glorious. The sea is clear, blue and beautiful and further up the coast the turtles come to lay their eggs.

At lunchtime the tavernas fill up with locals and tourists alike, all sharing the tables and enjoying some of the best seafood in this part of Crete. You can rent cars, mopeds and bikes in Kolymbari which will allow you to meander up the peninsula and take in the beautiful scenery and the flora of the coastal region. The area is also world famous for its Kolymvari Olive Oil; locally grown, carefully selected olives, cold-pressed and processed locally go in to making this champagne of olive oil that has won awards around the world.
