Platanias : Holiday Accommodation

Platanias is one of Crete's most popular tourist resorts and is around ten kilometres from Chania, so not to be confused with the other Platanias near Rethymno. It’s a noisy lively place with a full-on nightlife that revolves around the nightclubs and music bars and the many restaurants and tavernas. With the seven kilometres of shining white Blue Flag beach that borders the Gulf of Chania there’s everything you need for a great family holiday. The beach is hemmed by plane trees and sycamores; in fact the town derives its name from the Greek for plane tree (platania), as these trees were found all along the River Platanias that flows into the sea by the town.

Like many of the new seaside resorts Planatias consists of the old and new parts, or Ano and Kato Platanias. The old village is on top of the hill that overlooks the area, the locals refer to it as the Acropolis, and the views from there are magnificent. If you want a fun-filled summer package holiday Platanias is an ideal place. It caters for young families as well as the party crowd and it goes without saying that in Crete, like everywhere in Greece, small children are welcomed and spoilt by the effervescent taverna owners.
