Whenever I come to Parga I feel immediately at home, perhaps because it's an enchanting Greek village that feels like an island and never seems to change. When people see my holiday photos I still have to convince them that Parga is actually part of the Greek mainland.

I love hiring a car and driving along the coast to find one of the hundreds of secluded beaches so I can enjoy the peace and quiet all to myself, though when I fancy a sunbed and parasol, I go to Valtos beach. It's just a short boat-taxi ride, or a brisk walk from Parga town. Closer to home, there is a beach in Parga town itself, so you really are spoilt for choice.

I love exploring and driving inland and one of my favourite trips is to Meteora, which really is an incredible sight. For me, the fun is just to just set off and see where the road takes me, often finding myself stumbling across amazing views and astonishing pieces of Greek history. When I feel like heading back I just follow the signposts back to the towns of Preveza or Igoumenitsa, as Parga is in between these. My advice to anyone hiring a car, is to avoid the centre of Parga town, as it's so small with very little parking; it's best to leave the car on the main road.

At night, Parga Town comes to life. I usually start by taking an early evening stroll through the cobbled streets, browsing through the shops, many of which sell some interesting and unusual souvenirs. There are loads of tavernas and restaurants throughout the town, however I have to admit, for me there are only two places to eat: one on the harbour front and the other on the top of the hill by the castle. The views from the castle are amazing during the day, but at night they really are spectacular. There is so much choice of typically Greek food but my favourite has to be the fresh seafood, and I can't resist the grilled octopus and calamari along with a selection of meze dishes.

In my opinion, Parga is a hidden Greek gem……..
