Rhodes: Introduction

Rhodes Island is located in the Eastern Aegean Sea. It is one of the largest Dodecanese islands in terms of both land mass and population. Rhodes is a popular holiday destination for a reason. Things to do
If you love nature, then the lush greenery of the famous Butterfly Valley of Petaloudes is one for you. Millions of butterflies gather there in the summer and the slightest sound drives them from the trees and shrubs, creating a truly fantastic sight. Rhodes is steeped in ancient history with countless cultural sites to explore, such as the Palace of the Grand Masters in medieval old Rhodes town and the crumbling temples and 14th century church at Lalyssos. Water sports are available at most of the Rhodes beaches and if you want fun for all the family, then the Waterpark near Faliraki has fun slides and whirlpools to enjoy. Take a boat cruise around the east coast of the island to Lindos or the small island of Symi, to explore the quaint shops, traditional tavernas and colourful houses.

Eating Out
Rhodes has a wide variety of restaurants, with everything from traditional Greek Tavernas to international cuisines. Lindos and Rhodes Old Town have a number of rooftop restaurants, which provide the perfect setting for a romantic meal with a loved one. There are plenty of inexpensive food takeaway outlets in Rhodes or stay at a self-catering apartment and prepare your own meals using fresh local produce. Self catering is a great choice for a cheap Rhodes holiday.

Beaches
Rhodes has a full spectrum of fantastic seaside, from long sandy beaches to small hidden coves. The beach at Faliraki is one of the best on the island, with golden sands backed by lively bars and restaurants. If you prefer somewhere more relaxing, Pefkos has a lovely little beach with nearly white sand and clear turquoise waters.
