I would consider Skiathos one of the best 'all rounder' islands in Greece. It mixes the laid back Greek way of life, with numerous beaches and lively atmosphere whilst being great for families and couples.

The island has one main road that connects all the resorts together, which makes them so easy to explore via the efficient (and relatively cheap!) bus service that runs all day and into the night. The great thing is that if you miss a bus, you won't have long to wait before the next one arrives!

Skiathos Town has two parts - the old town and the new town, and both have their own personalities. The new town is more cosmopolitan where you can people-watch with an ouzo or two in one of the plentiful chic bars alongside the port. The old town has loads of tavernas all serving traditional Greek cuisine; my personal favourites are Moussaka and Kleftiko! After I have my evening meal, I love to have a wander through the maze of bougainvillea-lined back streets - for me a perfect end to a lovely night in Skiathos Town.

Troulos is the family resort, with many tavernas to choose from that suit all tastes. The beach here is great for the little ones with its shallow, calm waters and if you are like me, a big kid, you'll love the range of watersports available!

For a great day out, why not hop on one of the island's buses and get off at the last stop - Koukounaries beach, backed by a pine tree-lined lagoon for a chilled out day on one of the islands most photographed beaches. If like me, you enjoy going off the beaten track and enjoy a bit of 'me time', why not take a walk (make sure you bring your walking shoes) and discover one of the other many beaches which can only be reached by foot. If you are really lucky, you may discover your own private beach to relax on.

For me, Skiathos is my perfect holiday destination, and one I just can't get enough of, in fact I've lost count how many times I've been back.
