I was intrigued by this destination - a tiny rocky islet protruding from the sparkling waters, this island was easily accessible from the jetty off the beach at Myrties in Kalymnos. The captain helped us onto the little boat with our luggage and as it sped across the water through the cooling breeze and salt water spray, Telendos loomed up from the waters and a small handful of tavernas came into view. This really was authentic Greece at its best, with colourful fishing boats bobbing up and down, a mountainous backdrop, washing swaying in the gentle wind as locals relaxed over a frappe - I felt like I'd gone back in time, it was pure escapism.

We disembarked the boat, feeling refreshed and couldn't wait to explore our surroundings, with only fifteen permanent inhabitants and no cars or roads, the feeling of relaxation washed over me immediately and I felt safe and content; Telendos really was a little bit of paradise. Our modern, fully equipped studios were a short walk away from the harbour and the owners were so friendly and helpful, plus the balconies offered stunning views out to sea. With a few tavernas, traditional coffee shop, bar, two minimarkets, a few small shops and three main beaches (Potha being our favourite with its peaceful sandy beach and plenty of shade from the trees) - we had everything we needed for a perfect tranquil break.

This area is very popular with divers, and in between relaxing on the beach, we snorkelled in the crystal clear waters - it was absolutely amazing!!!! Our evenings were quite magical, spent in the tavernas with the most welcoming locals we'd ever met… We listened to traditional music as waves gently lapped the shore, and feasted on the most amazing fresh fish and tantalising mezze on offer. On a few days we fancied something a bit more up-tempo, so headed over to Kalymnos, only ten minutes by boat, costing 2€ (boats are regular and run until late) where there were plentiful shops, bars and restaurants on offer, from authentic eateries to trendy bars - all resorts were easily accessible by bus or taxi, it couldn't have been more convenient.
