2008 News Archive - Holidays - Advice for those marrying abroad

12 08 2008

Anyone planning to become hitched overseas is being advised to make sure they have appropriate insurance before jetting off.

British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) is stressing that many happy couples need to realise that they should ensure they have the right policy to help protect against anything going wrong and should increase their protection above the normal level taken out to cover their annual holidays overseas.

Peter Staddon, a spokesperson for Biba, explained: "Holiday insurance is that - holiday. A wedding is different and, as such, brings with it other problems: the dress, the rings, the wedding refinery."

Despite meticulous planning, things can still go wrong with weddings including lost dresses, dropped cakes and stolen rings; therefore wedding insurance could help to at least compensate for such mishaps.

Couples are also advised to explain to guests that any wedding presents should be given once the newlyweds return from their holidays as gifts are unlikely to be covered by insurance.
