2008 News Archive - Holidays - Algarve Film Festival to roll out the red carpet

25 04 2007

While most go to the Algarve for sun and sand, from May 15th to the 20th, many will be attending the famous Algarve Film Festival in Portimao.

Founded in 1972, the festival focuses on a short film competition consisting of animated and live action 35mm pieces.

While the main festival is in Portimao, usually regional screenings and presentations are put on in the towns of Lagos, Alvor, Monchique, Lagoa, Mexilhoeira Grande, Silves, Messines, Albufeira, Guia, and Tavira, along with Milfontes and Ourique in the Alentejo.

Among the categories are Best Film About Nature and the Environment, Best Film About the Algarve and Best Film With a Message of Love and Peace Among Men.

Even if one doesn't manage to take in any of the films, the Algarve is well worth a visit in itself.

Renowned for its warm weather, long beaches and crystal clear blue water, the Algarve is one of Britain's favourite destinations.
