2008 News Archive - Holidays - Arab desert challenge

01 08 2007

Visitors to Dubai may not have considered driving across Arabian deserts, but this should not stop them from sending off the competitors of the United Arab Emirates Desert Challenge rally.

Dubai is hosting a celebratory event on October 28th to kick start the mammoth race over hot sandy dunes in arid conditions. The race lasts until November 2nd when finishers will hopefully arrive intact at Dubai International Marine Club.

Last years winners were Luc Alphand and Gilles Picard who drove a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution to eventually be crowned victorious over the other drivers.

Organisers of the occasion are warning that hotels are busy during the festivities so travellers should book early to avoid disappointment.

For those now excited at the thought of a challenging drive at the end of October, entrant applications for the event only close on the October 14th, giving the daredevils tempted to join in the rally a chance to prepare.

In October, Dubai will observe the religious festival Ramadan, a period of fasting for Muslims.
