2008 News Archive - Holidays - Balearics and Canaries are 'perfect' for half-term

30 09 2008

A relaxing beach holiday in the Canary Islands or the Balearics, is the perfect way to spend half-term, according to one travel expert.

Gareth Hockey of alpharooms.com, said that the islands were increasing in popularity every year, particularly the Canary Islands, which bask in sunshine all year round.

"Majorca in October is idyllic. The weather remains sunny with temperatures averaging 70F, the sea is still warm enough to swim in and the island’s resorts are bustling … While Lanzarote is a year round destination," he commented.

According to Mr Hockey, around 80 per cent of those travelling abroad during half-term opt to holiday in the Canaries.

In related news, Lonely Planet author David Else recently claimed that the credit crunch had not impacted on the amount of travelling done by Britons.

Instead, he said that holidaymakers were looking at other ways of cutting costs, such as opting for four-star accommodation, as opposed to five-star.
