2008 News Archive - Holidays - Blood Brothers will close Venice festival

10 07 2007

Tourists visiting northern Italy in early September will be in receipt of a visual spectacle as the 64th annual Venice Film Festival will close with a showing of Alexi Tan's first feature film, Blood Brothers.

Mr Tan (also known as Chen Yili) spoke to the Oriental Morning Post explaining why he is taking the film to Venice, commenting: "The Venice Film Festival has always been interested in new directors' productions. And yet Blood Brothers is produced by three Chinese film-makers who used to live in the United States."

The full line-up for the festival will be announced on July 26th in Rome. Running from August 29th until September 8th, the festival will indulge filmgoers and holidaymakers alike.

Bernardo Bertolucci is to be awarded the 75th anniversary Golden Lion at the awards, while Tim Burton will receive the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement.

July sees Venice host another cultural event, the International Theatre Festival, from the 18th through until the 29th. The annual celebration of theatre will this year be directed by Maurizio Scaparro.
