2008 News Archive - Holidays - British holidaymakers feeling adventurous

29 12 2006

Holidaymakers in 2007 will express a greater interest than ever before in some of Europe's less explored destinations, according to a new report.

Opodo, which recently entered into a preferred partnership with Cosmos Holidays, has reported that eastern Europe will be particularly popular, with the likes of Estonia now drawing visitors to its stunning beaches.

Bulgaria will also be hugely popular with British travellers next year, thanks to growing recognition of the beauty of the Black Sea resorts.

Opodo's Neil Mott observed: "The conservative traveller is a thing of the past and tourists want the added value of adventure included within their holiday.

"This has led to a strong rise in travel to eastern European countries during 2006, since, while being accessible, they continue to hold a certain 'mystique' for the traveller."

Other destinations listed among Opodo's top ten hotspots for 2007 include South Africa, Morocco, Turkey and China, all of which boast established facilities and an element of undiscovered charm.

The 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa has reportedly had a staggering impact on the popularity of this particular destination, with bookings to Cape Town up by 15 per cent already.
