2008 News Archive - Holidays - Britons 'look to escape winter cold'

26 07 2007

During the Christmas period, Britons are eager to escape the UK winter and jet off to sunnier climes, one expert has suggested.

Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents, said that holidays of this nature make up the majority of bookings throughout the festive season.

"The Caribbean is very big over the winter. Winter sun does tend to be mid and long-haul. For long-haul it is their busy season, so the Caribbean, Africa, the far east," remarked the official.

However, the expert also noted that winter sports destinations are also popular throughout this time, as Brits aim to try their hand at skiing or snowboarding.

The summer currently being endured may also be convincing Britons to pack up and take a much-needed break, with recent figures showing a soaring number of bookings.

Teletext Holidays recorded about 106,000 hits on its website for just one day in July, the busiest in 2007 thus far.
