2008 News Archive - Holidays - Brits abroad 'stash cash' on their person

06 02 2008

Britons enjoying overseas holidays are keeping their valuables on themselves rather than in a safe, it has been reported.

According to Nationwide, 36 per cent of UK travellers stash their cash in pockets and other places on their person as opposed to in a safety deposit box.

The research revealed that a further 12 per cent of Brits stored their spends in a suitcase while nine per cent decided to retain their valuables in a drawer. An additional two per cent believed the bedside table was the best place to display their pricey possessions.

"It is astounding that people are prepared to take such a gamble when travelling abroad. You never know what's around the corner and for that reason it is vital that you have adequate travel insurance in place," commented Nationwide's insurance director, Robin Bailey.

He noted that as 54 per cent of those surveyed admitted to travelling more than once a year it is "worth considering" annual travel insurance.

The Association of British Travel Agents recently predicted that 2008 would be a big year for travel.
