2008 News Archive - Holidays - Brits brag about holiday fun

30 07 2007

Brits are spending more money on holiday so they can brag to their friends and family about their experiences, new research has found.

A study by Halifax Home Insurance indicated that holidaymakers will spend on average £300 more on upgrades with Londoners being the worst offenders, spending up to £553 extra on flights, hotels and hire cars.

Senior manager for underwriting at the company Paul Birkhead commented on the importance of holidays today and that Brits often lie about meeting Hollywood stars as a way to embellish their travel stories.

"Holidays have become the new Rolex or Porsche, a status symbol used to impress friends, family and colleagues," he remarked.

It was found that most Brits abroad will lie about the weather, exaggerating how hot and sunny the climate was.

Last week Halifax advised passengers to ensure they had taken out travel insurance to avoid any holiday mishaps that could occur and potentially spoil a much anticipated holiday.
