2008 News Archive - Holidays - Brits head further away from home

18 07 2007

British holidaymakers are heading further away from home to experience exotic and far-flung destinations around the world, lastminute.com has found.

According to the research, long-haul destinations are now au fait among the British, with the number of people heading to the Maldives rising by 34 per cent and Kenya has become a holiday "best-seller".

Turkey is seeing a renewed interest from UK tourists and destinations in America such as Las Vegas, New York and San Francisco are all enjoying a 50 per cent rise in bookings this summer.

However it was found by Holidaylettings.co.uk yesterday that Mediterranean countries, particularly sunny Spain, are still top of the table for Brits investing in properties abroad.

Ross Elder, managing director of the company, claimed more and more people were looking for holiday bargains on the internet and holidaymakers are showing "an increased bravery to explore new locations". Holidaylettings.co.uk found Egypt and Mexico to be popular new holiday destinations.
