2008 News Archive - Holidays - Brits 'love' beach holidays

20 10 2008

Long, lazy beach holidays are Britain's favourite type of break, it has been revealed.

In a survey carried out by Holiday Extras, 59.8 per cent of people said that they prefer lounging around in the sun over any other type of holiday.

Of those polled, ten per cent said that city breaks were their favourite type of holiday, while 5.3 per cent preferred cruises.

Commenting on the findings, Mike Whiting, managing editor at Holiday Extras, said: "With the last couple of British summers blighted by rainfall and colder temperatures, it is no surprise that UK travellers are in search of sunnier climes."

With Britons working increasingly long hours, it is also little wonder that holidays with hectic schedules are not as popular as beach breaks, he added.

In related news, a recent study by Abbey revealed that 15 million Britons are planning to jet to warmer climes over the coming months, with destinations such as the Canary Islands and southern Spain proving particularly popular.
