2008 News Archive - Holidays - Brits 'neglect travel insurance'

19 03 2008

UK holidaymakers are still neglecting to take out travel insurance, one commentator has reported prior to the Easter bank holiday break.

According to Sainsbury's Bank, more than ten per cent of Brits heading abroad this Easter are set to do so without the security offered by travel insurance.

The comment comes as the company notes that over 4.2 million people did not take out travel insurance the last time they went on holiday.

"Easter can be a great time to get away, but these are alarming figures because taking travel insurance on holiday is as important as packing your passport," commented Neil Laird, travel insurance manager, Sainsbury's Finance.

The main offenders for not taking out travel insurance were revealed to be those living in London, with over 24 per cent not taking out cover.

Mr Laird noted that travel insurance can protect holidaymakers financially in cases of injury or baggage loss.
