11 01 2008

There has been an increase in the number of Brits looking to take long-haul holidays in 2008, it has been revealed.

According to Analyst weblog Hitwise Intelligence, the number of long-haul travel searches rose of the Christmas 2007 period.

The top search terms over the seasonal period included flights to Australia, flights to New York, cheap flights to New York and cheap flights to Australia.

"The highest climbers this year are long-haul and winter sun destinations; although closer to home there has also been an increase in searches for flights to Paris and Amsterdam," weblog author Robin Goad observed.

Flights to Las Vegas, flights to Dubai and flights to Lanzarote also featured as popular internet search terms over the Christmas period.

Dropping out of the rankings were searches for flights to USA, flights to Prague and cheap flights to Spain.

Over Christmas, the Association of British Travel Agents reported that a "record" number of Brits were travelling abroad for the festive season.
