UK holidaymakers are continuing to find the money to go on holiday, despite the country being in the midst of an economic downturn, it has been reported.

According to the Association of British Travel Agents, this is not a surprise "at all".

Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for the organisation, commented that there is a "huge range" of choices available to people in terms of holidays.

"We know from previous recessions and difficult times that holidays are the last things that people are prepared to give up," Ms Tuke commented.

She added that people can pick and choose the sort of holidays that will suit their budgets.

The comment comes after a poll of more than 2,000 people by American Express Travellers Cheques revealed that 80 per cent of Britons are "not willing" to give up their summer break because of financial worries.
