2008 News Archive - Holidays - Brits 'still prefer foreign holidays'

11 03 2008

The preference of Britons to take their holidays abroad shows no sign of slowing, the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions has claimed.

Robin Broke, director of the association, said that while there are signs that more people are willing to take breaks in the UK, as a nation we are still only second to Germany for heading to foreign climes.

"That trend is still there, not least because we've got these very tempting low-cost airlines and we've got a very well developed outward package tour industry," explained Mr Broke.

"Those two things make it very temping for people to go abroad."

According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of Britons traveling overseas from the UK in the last quarter fell by two per cent.

However, the amount spent abroad by British tourists in the same period grew by one per cent to £8.9 million.
