2008 News Archive - Holidays - Brits swap cold UK for sunny Egypt and Dubai

11 04 2008

Cold UK weather towards the end of March and beginning of April has left Britons packing their bags and booking package holidays to foreign climes, according to one commentator.

During April, lastminute.com predicts that families will flock to warmer countries such as Egypt and Dubai for some spring sunshine.

Popular destinations "for a late Easter sunshine break" have also been listed as Turkey and Greece, as well as Palma in Majorca and the always sunny Canary Island of Tenerife.

"The unusually cold weather has led to incredible demand for late Easter sun holidays," the company's UK managing director John Bevan said.

In Turkey, the coastal destinations of Bodrum and Antalya were tipped for popularity among Brits while Greek islands likely to be frequented by Britons this April included Kos, Corfu and Rhodes.

Antalya is located on the south-west Mediterranean coast of Turkey and has been popular among holidaymakers since the 1970s.
