2008 News Archive - Holidays - Brits 'tell holiday fibs'

05 09 2008

British holidaymakers enjoy "name-dropping" and regularly lie about the number of destinations they have visited, according to a new survey.

Research carried out by easyCar.com found that one in six Britons have lied about their travels in order to impress someone.

Furthermore, many people class stopovers as "visits", with men particularly guilty when it comes to embellishing the truth.

Commenting on the findings, Bill Jones, chief executive of easyCar.com, said: "As it becomes simple to visit far flung destinations, people’s perceptions of a 'well-travelled' individual change - and some holidaymakers feel the need to bend the truth."

The research also revealed that Brits are eager to escape the stresses and strains of everyday life, with 87 per cent of people claiming they would like to holiday somewhere off the beaten track.

In related news, a recent poll by Prudential revealed that despite the credit crunch, Britons still view holidays as an important expenditure.
