2008 News Archive - Holidays - Cape Town tipped to be tourism hotspot in 2009

10 12 2008

A travel industry insider has tipped Cape Town to be one of the top destinations for tourists in 2009.

Martin Chiazza, the founder of go4travel.net, has said that a combination of factors, including the weakened rand, will mean that Cape Town is a tourism hotspot next year.

The rand has slipped in value against the pound the course of the past year, with one pound now buying more than 15 rand.

Mr Chiazza predicted: "Cape Town will once again be a top holiday hotspot in 2009.

"The stunning backdrop of Table Mountain and the beautiful surrounding beaches and vineyards plus the weak rand will lure cash-strapped Brits to the city."

Recently, Cape Town was voted best world city in the Telegraph Travel awards.

The awards, which were voted for by over 25,000 Telegraph readers, represent the largest survey of the UK's travel habits.
