2008 News Archive - Holidays - Carnival sweeps through Algarve

04 02 2008

Parties, fancy dress and much parading was the order of the day in Portugal's Algarve region at the weekend.

Sao Bras de Alportel held a traditional children's carnival at the weekend, with hundreds of children and adults taking part, the Portugal Resident reports.

According to the publication, the celebrations are set to peak tomorrow on Shrove Tuesday when the main carnival float parade, showering sweets and confetti on the watching crowds, will take place on the Avenida da Liberdade.

Saturday saw the Loule children's carnival take place on Avenida Jose da Costa Mealha featuring Noddy and Bob the Builder.

On Tuesday February 5th 2008, Sao Bras de Alportel will be holding its traditional costume competition - to be judged on creativity and originality, construction of the costume and happiness of the participant.

The Algarve is a popular destination among British tourists thanks to the hot climate and multiple beaches.
