2008 News Archive - Holidays - Celebrate the Nile in Egypt

14 05 2007

Every September the denizens of Cairo get together to celebrate the lifeblood of their city - the mighty Nile.

The Wafaa al-Nil Festival, literally meaning Fidelity of the Nile, celebrates the river with concerts, poetry readings and scientific discussions about health and pollution – which are major issues in this crowded city.

Visitors shouldn't miss this happy and exciting occasion when the waterfront is thronged with celebrants and stalls selling food abound.

Cairo has much to offer tourists, including the world-famous Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, which has 136,000 items on display.

And those who are after a bargain should definitely get out to the Khan el-Khalili part of the city, a massive bazaar selling anything and everything one could wish for.

The city also boasts a thriving nightlife and dozens of luxurious restaurants selling some of the finest foods on the continent.

Overall, the Wafaa al-Nil Festival is a perfect excuse for visitors pining to see one of the most ancient and beautiful cities in the world to catch a flight to north Africa.
