2008 News Archive - Holidays - Celebrating 7,000 years of culture in Malta

17 08 2007

The annual Festival Mediterranea held on the Maltese island of Gozo is sure to attract a variety of holidaymakers.

Celebrating 7,000 years of culture on the island, the festival aims to provide a gateway to the history of Gozo through a diverse range of events.

Combining opera, classical and symphonic music with archaeology, folklore and fine local cuisine, the festivities offer a colourful insight into life in Gozo.

"Festival Mediterranea unveils Gozo as a mosaic of Mediterranean civilisation, heritage and art," the organisers say.

Visitors to the island can take in the sights and sounds of the event while enjoying the warm October and November weather.

Gozo is the second largest of the Maltese islands and is more rural than Malta, whose capital Valletta boasts Baroque architecture.

Considered to be a World Heritage Site, the city offers tourists cafes and bars, cathedrals and a picturesque harbour.
