2008 News Archive - Holidays - China features on "It List"
09 01 2008
China has made it on to the It List of the top-ten must-see destinations of 2008, it has been revealed.
Specifically, holidaymakers are being urged to visit the island of Hainan, which is described by list-compiler Concierge.com as a "new discovery".
Other spots to make the list in 2008 include Montenegro - in third place - Sicily, Oman, Paris and the Oaxacan Coast in Mexico.
"Many of the destinations on this year's list have undergone a transformation," commented Peter J Frank, editor-in-chief of Concierge.com.
He added: "Sicily used to cater mostly to the tour-bus crowd, but it has become a hot spot for foodies ... even Paris is undergoing a seismic shift ... these places, coupled with new discoveries like Oman and Hainan Island, make for a great mix."
Mr Frank also noted that Mozambique - which topped the list - had reinvented itself as a "scuba diving mecca" in the 15 years since it was civil-war zone.
The smallest province of China, Hainan is situated off the country's southern coast and is a popular tourist spot as a result of its beautiful beaches and lack of industrialisation.
