2008 News Archive - Holidays - Croatia in tourism drive

20 03 2007

As Balkan countries prove increasingly popular with Europeans looking to get away for a bit, Croatia is set to take advantage of this with a massive tourism drive.

The Croatian National Tourist Board has set the target of a two per cent increase in tourism in 2007 and a five per cent increase in revenues.

In 2006 Croatia had a record 10.3 million visitors, Tourism Minister Bozidar Kalmeta told the Travel Daily News. This equates to a four per cent rise on the year previously.

While the tourist hordes from Germany, Britain, France and other western European nations have so far left Croatia relatively undiscovered, this is undoubtedly about to change once it becomes obvious what a gem the country is.

Croatia has a diverse climate, boasting continental and Mediterranean weather along its coast and a highland climate in the south and central part of the country.

The mainland has beautiful rolling hills and wooded mountains and is famous for its extensive national parks.

Its coast has over 1,000 islands of differing sizes, some of which are inhabited and make idyllic settings for a holiday.
