Visitors to the Canary Islands in February will be able to kick the rapidly melting snow off their shoes and slip on some sandals instead as they sit beneath the palm trees and sip a dink on the beach, while the sun beats down and the inviting blue waters of the sea beckon with a gentle, whooshing reminder as the waves roll in.

Of course, there is always time to nip into Las Palmas and enjoy a film.

Quite a few films in fact, for the Las Palmas Film Festival takes place between February 29th and March 8th 2008, with both long and short films being shown in venues around the city.

The Alfredo Kraus Auditorium is the main location, but there are also three others showing a mixture of films in different languages and from different nations.

Film buffs will thus be able to indulge their passion in the knowledge that, unlike back at home, when they leave the cinema they won't have to wrap up warm.
