2008 News Archive - Holidays - Cruising into Malta's beach life

05 03 2007

One of the world's largest cruise liners may soon be taking in Malta on one of its routes, offering holidaymakers the chance to sample the island's beach life.

The newly christened Carnival Freedom, operated by US firm Carnival Cruise Lines, could serve the Mediterranean isle in the near future.

According to the Times of Malta, the company's president and chief executive Bob Dickinson said: "There is reasonable possibility that Malta could be on the itinerary as we grow larger."

And it's not hard to see why the archipelago could prove a popular destination for cruisers as well as other traveller.

Nestled just off Sicily's southern tip, Malta boasts beaches that will appeal to all types of holidaymaker. Those looking for relaxation can stretch out on the soft sand of Mellieha Bay in the north - with convenient facilities this is ideal for families.

The island's rocky beaches tend to attract swimmers and those eager to see the beautiful sea-life around Malta as the clarity of the water makes these stretches of coast ideal for snorkelling.

Among the most popular are Paceville, St Julians along the northern coast which has a nearby reef to explore. Zurrieq in the south is also a favourite, but while the deep water makes for perfect snorkelling it is less suitable for children.
