2008 News Archive - Holidays - Cruising the Atlantic

08 10 2007

Visitors to Gran Canaria this winter will not only be able to enjoy the warm climate and beautiful surroundings this island has to offer, but they will have the chance to watch a fantastic boating spectacle.

Leaving port on November 25th, 240 yachts will be setting sail across the Atlantic Ocean heading towards St Lucia.

Claiming to be the world's largest transcocean event, the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers will surely provide shoreline spectators with an unmissable scene as hundreds of graceful vessels set sail simultaneously.

Heading off from Las Palmas, the 2,700 nautical mile passage is expected to take boaters 12 to 24 days to reach the Caribbean using the north-east trade wind route.

The organisers have promised a wide range of activities before the start of the event, which could provide a whole day of fun for visiting Brits.

November also sees The Kite Festival taking place in the Canaries. Whatsonwhen reports that Fuertuventura will be the location for this fun-filled celebration.
