2008 News Archive - Holidays - Delicacies on display at the Prince Albert Town Festival

05 04 2007

While South Africa may not be renowned for the culinary arts, the country does boast some of the most naturally taste bud-pleasing foods in the world.

The famous Prince Albert Town Festival puts these yummy foods on display for the world.

Olives take a primary spot in the festival and the olive pit spitting contest always includes much hilarity.

Among the many local delicacies that visitors can try at the festival are the famous sosaties, tripe and ostrich kebabs.

The culinary curious should also make sure not to miss the potijekos, potbrood and braaivleis, which is meat cooked on an open fire.

Roosterkoek, bread rolls cooked over hot coals, are another favourite of the region.

Just as important a part of the festival as the food is the local wines which will be available for sampling.

And that's not all, vintage car parades, fun runs, cycle races, visits up the Swartberg Pass and a Ghost Walk mean that no one will get bored.

Prince Albert is located on the Karoo, a vast area or grass flats with large herds of antelope and zebra.
