2008 News Archive - Holidays - Dubai in tourism push

07 11 2008

Dubai could be the name on holidaymakers' lips in the coming years, if the country's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) gets its way.

The department currently has a plan in place to attract 15 million visitors a year by 2015 - and is on course for this target, TravelMole reports.

During the first nine months of this year, for example, the number of British visitors to the emirate increased by 9.2 per cent.

To build on such growth, the DCTM is to present at the World Travel Market in London next week.

At 616.25 sq m, its presentation stand is one of the largest at the convention, offering a figurative statement of the country's intent.

Ian Scott, UK and Ireland director of DTCM, said: "Dubai can feel justifiably proud of its successes so far this year."

The news comes after the world's biggest mall opened in Dubai.
