2008 News Archive - Holidays - Egypt and Sri Lanka voted top ten for tourism

04 02 2009

Egypt and Sri Lanka have been voted among the ten most popular long-haul destinations in the world for tourism, according to a report published recently.

The study, based on research conducted by Kuoni, reveals that "explorism", or the exploration of more exotic destinations such as Egypt or Sri Lanka, is a rising trend among UK tourists.

Nick Hughes, managing director of the tour company, explained that people increasingly want more out of their holidays, searching for an enriching and fulfilling experience rather than just a two-week break in the sun.

He said: "We call this growing trend Explorism and we believe it is the new tourism," adding: "Travel is no longer just a holiday choice. It impacts our lifestyle, stimulates our wellbeing and influences our fashion, design and food choices."

Egypt, with its fascinating history stretching back over thousands of years and Sri Lanka, with its exotic jungles and abundant wildlife, both boast stunning sandy beaches, but also offer tourists more if they want it.
