2008 News Archive - Holidays - European city breaks 'more popular than New York'

13 02 2008

Britons are more in favour of taking city breaks in Europe than jetting off to the Big Apple, it has been reported.

According to American Express, 36 per cent of Scots and 34 per cent of people residing in Yorkshire are more likely to take their loved one to a European city than to New York for Valentine's Day.

Meanwhile, an additional three per cent of Britons intend to take a romantic ski break this February 14th.

"The variety of romantic breaks being taken, in terms of location and new ideas about how to pop the big question, dispels notions of there being a typical or average way to spend Valentine's Day," commented Chris Rolland, head of American Express insurance services.

The news comes after Travelzoo reported that the number of proposals peaks around Valentine's Day.

It was also reported that city breaks are a romantic environment in which to propose.
