2008 News Archive - Holidays - "Explore your senses" in Greece

06 02 2007

The slogan for Greece's tourism campaign this year is "Explore Your Senses" - a particularly apt tagline for a country that offers so much to receptive visitors.

According to the Athens News Agency, there was a ten per cent increase in the number of visitors last year, taking the grand total up to 16 million.

With the World Tourism Organisation predicting a bumper year for tourism worldwide, Greece is looking to ensure it improves again this year and there is no doubting its credentials as one of Europe's premier holiday destinations.

In truth, you would need months rather than weeks to explore Greece and its islands, such is the variety of the attractions on offer.

Athens, for instance, boasts the Pantheon, the Theatre of Dionysus and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. A short walk from any of these magnificent sites will take you to the city's vibrant and dynamic areas, packed full of designer boutiques, cosmopolitan cafes and an endlessly entertaining nightlife.

The Ionian Islands should also be visited and each one is deserving of a good portion of your time. Corfu and Kefalonia are particularly popular, thanks to their beautiful beaches, quaint towns and established resorts.

Greece is also a wonderfully friendly country and tourists typically receive the kind of welcome that is conspicuously absent in many other European countries.
