2008 News Archive - Holidays - Film fans flock to Athens

03 08 2007

The ancient city of Athens will host its annual International Film Festival - also known as the Opening Nights Festival - this September, providing added entertainment for tourists.

The historic city is already bursting with monuments, ruins and places of interest for any keen culture fan, but between September 20th and 30th visitors to the region will have the added drama and glamour that a film festival is likely to present to its guests.

Launched in 1995, it is estimated that 50,000 film buffs will be in attendance to experience handpicked independent productions from around the world.

There are several categories of film available, fact-fans can indulge in the documentary section while those who are eager not to miss the Greek sunshine for too long may fancy perusing the short films programme.

If an abundance of independent films is not enough to satisfy culture enthusiasts then the Athens Book Festival will surely suffice, Whatsonwhen notes. Held in the same month as the film festivities the latest editions of Greek books will be available to buy from the foothills of the Acropolis.
